A profession known for its holistic approach is seeking the ability to prescribe narcotics.
While supporters say the move could help wean patients off strong medications opponents point out the changes may increase access to opioids at a time when the state is trying to lessen abuse.
Brian Becker, the owner of Stucky Chiropractic Center says referrals allow the clinic to give patients pain meds.
“Adding another profession that can prescribe medication is not going to make them better,” explained Becker.
Becker says there’s no need to add chiropractors to the list of those that can prescribe painkillers.
He added, “It's about allowing the body to heal itself it's not about allowing to put something from the outside in to take care of their ill health or their systems it's about helping them to heal themselves.
