Course Description
Dr. Mahmoud A. Ghannoum, M.Sc., Ph.D., EMBA will be presenting on The Microbiome and Well Being: From Gut-Brain Axis to Inflammation. In his speach, Dr. Ghannoum will discuss the microbiome, what it is, and its relationship with the brain in influencing certain neurodegenerative diseases and conditions. Tools to reduce inflammation in the body and in the gut specifically, as well as testing of your gut flora, will be discussed.

Dr. Ghannoum is an entrepreneur-scientist who has launched a number of companies focused on the treatment of biofilm infections, as well as microbial dysbiosis. Born and raised in Lebanon, Dr. Ghannoum is now the Director of the Center for Medical Mycology at Case Western Reserve University, one of the top 25 medical research universities in the United States (according to US News & World Report). He currently has 40+ years of experience researching and studying fungal microorganisms in the human body.

Through his research, Dr. Ghannoum established that fungal organisms constitute an essential part of the microbiome. In fact, in 2010, Dr. Ghannoum was the first scientist to identify over 100 native species of fungi in the oral cavity. He has published more than 350 peer reviewed publications and 6 scientific books. On top of that, he was in the top 1% of cited Scientists Worldwide with more than 24,000 scientific papers.
